Overview
Sub dermal implant is a birth control method which is made up of hormones which are aimed at interfering with the menstrual cycle in a bid to prevent pregnancy. The implant is designed to take different shapes, for example, the normal implant has a size and a shape of the match sick. The sub dermal implant also comes in other different shapes such as circles, skull, starfish, religious crosses, hearts, stars, ice cream cones, and even cup-cake shapes (Medical Bag, 2014). Normally, this implant is inserted under the skin. It can be inserted in different parts of the body with the upper arm under skin area being the most commonly used part.
Features of the Sub Dermal Implant
The implant has a couple of features which defines its appearance and its functioning in the body. First, the implant contains the progestin hormone. This hormone aids in the prevention of ovulation for a period of three years (Medical Bag, 2014). At the same time, the hormone helps in thickening the cervical mucus in order to prevent the passage of sperms through to the fallopian tube. Thus, it helps to prevent fertilization in case eggs are released by the ovaries. Second, the implant is reversible. This means that, in case it is leads to unexpected results or adverse side-effects, the implant can be easily removed and the effects controlled.
Sub Dermal Implant vs. Oral Medication
People prefer the implant over the oral medication methods since it is a reversible method. Unlike the oral methods which cannot be reversed, the sub dermal implant can be withdrawn if it becomes incompatible with the body of an individual (Medical Bag, 2014). Additionally, the sub dermal implant is associated with benefits such as prevention of some types of cancer, retention of body weight, prevention of acne and unwanted hair, and control of menstrual cycle to prevent menstruation.

a) Alesse
This is an oral contraceptive pill which is also referred to as levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol. The pill contains female reproductive hormones such as estrogen and progestin. This pill is commonly used by women to help in the prevention of ovulation or the release of eggs by the ovaries (Drugs.com, 2016).it comes with a dose with a single table which is usually active for 21 days and also an inert/inactive tablet which works for 7 days.
Alesse is associated with a couple of side effects such as vomiting, bloating, headache, and swelling among others (Drugs.com, 2016). However, the pill is compatible with some women’s body and it does not produce any side effects to them. However, it should never be used by women during their pregnancy period since it can interfere with the fetus development.
b) Enpresse
Enpresse is a birth control contraceptive which contains active female reproductive hormones such as estrogen and progestin (WebMD, 2016). The pill is designed to produce effects during the ovulation period of the menstrual cycle. During this stage, the pill thickens the vaginal fluid in the vaginal region. As a result, it helps in preventing the flow of sperm to reach the eggs released in the fallopian tube.
Therefore, the pill changes the appearance of the uterine wall to prevent passage of the sperms. At the same time, it prevents the attachment of a fertilized egg in the uterus. Therefore, if any egg released during the ovulation period is accidentally fertilized, the pill prevents its attachment on the uterine wall (WebMD, 2016). Thus, the fertilized egg is carried out of the uterus through the urine flowing out of the body.
