Background and Definition of Controversial Television Programs

A controversial TV program does not necessarily mean that the program contains explicit violence or sex.A TV program may contain scenes or ideas that violates the norms and ideologies of that society. For example, in Jordan, they have censored a miniseries because it was criticized as being anti-Semitic.On the other hand, what may be acceptable to other people may not be acceptable to some.Another example is the opposition of Muslims in Jakarta over the current trend of airing gossip programs about celebrities and their affairs. The Muslims considered these programs as haram or sinful acts or things according to Islam.

TV Show Violence

Heavy TV viewers believe that there is much more violence and danger in society, an effect that is especially strong for children who perceive televised aggression as relevant to their own lives. (Donnerstein, Slaby & Eron, 1994). As these responses indicate, violent television modifies children's attitudes towards social reality so they increasingly match what children see on TV.
Groups and Organizations against Controversial TV Programs

Among the groups advocating for the censorship of television programs is the Parents Television Council (PTC) has the primary mission to promote and restore responsibility and decency to the entertainment industry in answer to America's demand for positive, family-oriented television programming. Because of the pervasive and powerful influence of television, the PTC seeks to discourage the increasingly graphic sexual themes and dialogues depictions of gratuitous violence and profane or obscene language that have crowded out family viewing options.

Among the three different outlines, I believe the most successful outline that would fit my research paper would be chronological outline since this would likely be a combination of the outline by significanceand the outline by interest.Furthermore, the reader would have no trouble sorting through the research paper as the points of significance and interest are placed in chronological order, starting with the introduction and background of the topic, followed by the definition of terms.

The chronological order of the outline is also useful for giving emphasis on some points of the research paper. For example, I would like to point out which groups in particular are calling for the ban on controversial television programs, the reader would be able to relate it with whatbased on the articles from the magazines and newspapers. Moreover, the chronological outline also makes it easier for the author to organize her thoughts and still following the formal outlines of a research paper.
