Challenges for building effective teams
Team spirit is one of the fundamental aspects in organizations that can determine their level of success. The managers, team leaders and consultants should, therefore, address all the challenges that hinder them from building effective teams within their organizations to catalyze the achievement of the group goals (Dyer & Dyer, 2013). In this paper, some of the obstacles and solutions for building effective teams are discussed.
Hindrances to building effective teams
One of the major challenges that have prevented the building of effective teams is the leadership within the organizations. Some of the leaders lack the ability to relate well to the members of their groups and hence failing to unite them (Dyer & Dyer, 2013). The leaders of groups also play a significant role in developing strong cohesion within the groups and therefore some leaders lacks the abilities to steer their teams appropriately and thus leading to the formation of ineffective or collapsing of groups. Poor relationships among some members of the groups due to personal issues also propagates the formation of ineffective groups; this is because such relationships leads into conflicts that weaken the bond and focus on the group as individual members will take different sides of in the conflict (Dyer & Dyer, 2013). The competition for power also alters the focus of the group as some individuals may want to be influential in the group leading to conflicts and weakening of the team spirit. Lack of effective communication within the group is another issue that hinders effective team building within organizations.
As a member of the group I may be part of the problem leading to the formation of ineffective teams as all members of the groups have a duty to play in uniting all the members through the initiation of the conflict resolution processes and maintaining a good relationship with all the team members.
