This is a research paper based on gender equality in films; be it a hit movie or a movie that did not make it to the box office. There has always been a stir of the roles women are given in big hit movies. Where people have speculated in the roles, women are provided in some movies. Some of the roles beg the question, “Are women given respectable roles in films?” but then again, there has been movies purely based on gender and woman power which then begs the question, “Are women not taking charge in the film industry?”
Sexism is still fit as a fiddle in Hollywood. Women in the film industry have over the years stirred up discussions on whether or not they are given as much chance as men are in starring in revolutionary films. But then again, women have been given roles in the movies as the lead characters resulting in the success in exception of actresses. Some of the films and women have been recognized and awarded prizes. In the 2016 Oscars, there are segments for each and every segment in movie production and film reception. There is an actor of the year; actress of the year; supporting actress of the year; supporting actor of the year. This is awards that are given to those individuals who outdid themselves and showed marked a brilliant performance in the role they were offered. This promotes actors; both male and female to work harder so as to receive an Oscar. There are other segments where both male and female individuals go against each other head to head to prove who worked better; who outdid themselves. Some of the segments like makeup artist of the year were won by women who were up against male individuals who have been prominent in the film industry.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there has been a lot of speculation on whether or not women are given roles that represent their contribution to the world of film industry. Based on the research I did, I found out that there in male dominance in the movie industry; men of all ages have wildly been presented in that there is child; middle age; adult and elderly men who are still popular in the film industry. In women dominance, most of the women who are most popular are in their twenties and thirties. Women have not been given significant roles as compared to men, but there has been some light shed on the issue. There has been the creation of characters to be played by women as in the Avengers film series. Also, women do not take charge and explore their talents and enroll as directors; there are female directors who have been upcoming. So begs the questions; “Are women given respectable roles in films?” or “Are women not taking charge in the movie industry?”
